Re: 2008 AHDRA Screamin’ Eagle Performance Parts Bike Week Nationals @ Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, FL.
The 2008 AHDRA National Tour started off in sunny Gainesville, Florida this past weekend with the Screamin’ Eagle Performance Parts Bike Week Nationals presented by Gainesville Harley-Davidson. The race weekend was filled with both upsets and surprises as the weekend went on.
STREET-PRO; Andy Simon came out in his very first pass with an 8.893 ET @ 151.12 MPH to claim the #1 qualifier position. In fact he was the only Street-Pro to go into the 8 second zone all weekend! However, in the semi-final round of competition, the high horsepower was just too much as Andy just fried the tire right from the starting line. The bike went left, then right and headed towards the center line all the while spinning the tire. When he was finally able to get some traction, he proceeded to run down the competition. In the end it was just too late as the margin of victory was just 7 one hundredths of a second.
HOT-STREET; Up and coming Hot-Street rider Charlie Cannon had just a little too much found horsepower over the winter. In the day prior to qualifying, Charlie was consistently running 9 second passes in Bradenton, FL. When a connecting rod failure put an end to his race weekend. Charlie is considered to be the man to beat in Hot-Street this year.
SUPER-SPORT; Gary DeGrange had his first career #1 Qualifier this weekend in the ultra competitive Super-Sport class with a 10.332 ET @ 125.66 MPH. Congratulations to Gary and his team Star Gazer Racing. Also competing in the Super-Sport class was Danny Boyer who qualified #2 with a 10.345 ET @ 126.90 MPH. Both engines are powered by Andy Simon built engines and were equipped with the new Simon’s Competition Throttle Stop kit.
SUPER ELIMINATOR; Rookie Joey Thomson who was competing in his very first event on his new Simon’s prepared Super Eliminator bike just missed the #1 qualifying spot by 3 one thousandths of a second. Hats off to Joey for a job well done. Like Super-Sport, this class is ultra competitive.
PRO-MODIFIED; Tom Hannum qualified in the #4 spot with a 8.706 ET @ 148.48 MPH as he went all the way to the semi-final round after being plagued with an air shifter problem.
The next race on the 2008 AHDRA National Tour is at the Speedworld Dragstrip in Whittmann, AZ.. The Screamin’ Eagle Performance Parts Arizona Bike Week Nationals presented by Arrowhead and Chandler Harley-Davidson takes place on March 29-30. Preparations are already underway for the upcoming event in Arizona.
